Company History

Mr. Jack Hynes CEO, started our company in 1970 in the ship repair business, originally working exclusively for C.A. Crosbie Shipping, carrying out the maintenance and repairs on several small general cargo vessel’s which were mainly trading between Montreal, East Coast and the Arctic.

After a couple of years of experience under his belt, he ventured out on his own offering a full range of repair services to the local shipping community, predominantly with foreign vessel trading in our area.

Since 1970 we have grown to be the largest privately owned topside ship repair facility in Eastern Canada, with our head office and main plant located in Montreal with operates 24 hours, 7 days a week throughout the entire East Coast and Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System.

1970 Our Founder J.T.(Jack) Hynes started in the ship repair business under the name of Mount Royal Repairs.
1976 Moved to Shed 23 on the Port of Montreal and incorporated the company with the name Mount Royal Marine Repairs Limited.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
   
 
 
  

1980
1980's

1980 Purchased the well-established ship repair firm of W.F. Walsh Ltd.
1982 Acquired the license from the Metalock International Association.
1983 Mount Royal Marine Repairs Ltd. closed its operations at shed 23 and moved in with W.F. Walsh Inc. whereby the companies were formally amalgamated under the name Mount Royal/Walsh Inc.
1985 Purchased our new 76,000 sq. ft. property at 2101 Aird Ave.,just moments away from the Port.
1986 Acquired the licenses for MAN B&W and SKL Diesel, became the one and only DNV certified work shop in Canada.

1990
1990's

1986-1997 Acquired the licenses for MAN B&W and SKL Diesel, became the one and only DNV certified work shop in Canada and will be the first Lloyd’s Register, ISO 9002 top side yard in Canada. Certification obtained from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB); annual testing.
1998 Purchased the UHP waterjetting system that allowed us to evolve and become MRW Waterjetting Incorporated.
1999 Opened new offices in Baltimore, Maryland and Sept-Iles, Quebec. Purchased a computer controlled CNC Plasma Cutting Table

2000's

2000 Integrated ourselves into the 21st Century with an added Service, 3 Dimensional Measuring & Designing.
2001 Expanded our facility; and installed two ten ton overhead cranes.
2002 Authorized to be the service agent for Nishishiba Electric (N.S.D.K.) and representative of Fuji Electric for Eastern Canada.
2003 Joint venture with Separatech Canada Inc., manufacturing oily/water separators.
Fabricated a 40 X 20 fully contained stationary sandblasting unit.
2009 Certification acquired from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. Engine & Machinery Division

2012 Certification acquired from Hyundai Lifeboats Co., Ltd.
2012 Certification acquired from Bada Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.
2012 Certification acquired for Marine Surveying by Lloyd’s Maritime Academy
2016 Certification acquired for Lifeboat Davit & Winch Inspection / Repair
